Resident Evil Village art director amazed at reaction to Lady Dimitrescu

Artistic director Resident evil village Tomonori Takano in an interview IGN said that the Hungarian countess and serial killer Elizabeth Bathory, the Japanese urban legend Hasshaku-sama and Mortisha Adams from The Addams Family became the sources of inspiration for the creation of Lady Dimitrescu.
At the same time, the very first concept art that Takano drew was the scene where Dimitrescu has to bend down to walk through the doorway. Later, the developers said that the character’s height is 290 centimeters.
It is this scene in the game trailer for the first time attracted attention of netizens to Lady Dimitrescu. As a result, gamers and not only created a lot of memes that describe sexual attraction to the character, and not fear of her.
We analyzed the characters and elements of the Resident Evil series to see if they were really scary, or if they became so mundane that they lost their effectiveness in scaring players.

I tried to forget the design logic of the past and started thinking about the best ways to create fear. For Resident Evil Village, we use the same concepts of evil as in Resident Evil 7, which was not based on ordinary people or zombies.

Regarding the reaction of netizens to Lady Dimitrescu, neither Takano nor the rest of the team could predict her.

Personally, I was particularly struck by comments like: “I want her to stalk me.”

However, Takano noted that Lady Dimitrescu, the village and the castle are just a part of Resident Evil Village. The authors prepared many other elements that created a more comprehensive experience than Resident Evil 7.

Resident Evil Village will be released on May 7 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series, Xbox One and PC.
