The first details of the remasters appeared on the network Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 from material Digital foundry with a first look at the updated version of the second part of the shooter.
- As with the remaster of the first Crysis, Crysis 2: Remastered (and triquela) will not have a separate version for the Xbox Series X / S and PlayStation 5. The launch on new consoles is implemented through backward compatibility;
- On PS5, the game runs at native 1440p and shows performance very close to 60fps. Xbox Series X should get higher resolution;
- Saber Interactive is still involved in remastering, but this time around, Crytek is leading the development effort to better realize the projects’ potential;
- Unlike the first part, where the console port from the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 was taken as the basis for the remaster, the re-releases of Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 are based on the original PC versions and will include all key functions, including tessellation;
- Other improvements are announced: higher resolution textures based on new 3D scans, SVOGI global illumination system, large increase in cube map samples, improved level detail and an updated color sensor instead of the previous turquoise-orange;
- Crytek removed the performance, quality and ray tracing modes from the console assemblies of the Crysis 2 and 3 remasters, leaving one single mode focused on the balance between quality and performance;
- In turn, on the PC, the developers abandoned the graphics preset “Can Crysis pull?” In Crysis: Remastered, it did not give noticeable improvements, but it put a heavy load on the system, degrading performance;
- Switch versions of Crysis 2 and Crysis 3: Remastered are aimed at 30 frames per second. Digital Foundry has already seen the ports in action and was impressed. More about this will be discussed in a separate article.
Updated Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 will be released as part of the collection Crysis: Remastered Trilogy this fall. They can also be purchased separately.
