March 18, lead system architect Mark Zerny spoke in detail about the technical features Playstation 5. Among other things, he mentioned that Sony relies on sound. For its high-quality transmission, Zerni allocated a separate unit in the system, which was called Tempest Engine.
The PlayStation 5 audio engine is praised by many developers. Particularly impressed Tempest Engine remained Marc-Andre Utras, technical director of the studio Cradle gamescreating a sci-fi action film with elements of the role-playing game Hellpoint. In an interview with GamingBolt, Utras noted that 3D sound has been around for quite some time, however, the fact that the PS5 will process it from a hardware point of view will help developers use the capabilities of the central processor to the maximum.
“3D sound has been around for a long time,” says Utras. “You can easily run it on existing consoles … but not many games use it, because the technology takes up too many processor capacities and until now has been processed programmatically.
But now we will have allocated iron, ”he continued. “This means that developers will have no reason not to use the technology. For us, turning on 3D sound on a PS5 will be comparable to clicking a switch. It is assumed that users already have an audio system for all this. It also means that we can free the CPU from the heavy computing needed to render 3D sound! If you imagine that two consoles have the same processor, then one of them will be better able to cope with a specific task, having hardware specially allocated for this and allowing significantly unloading the central processor. ”
Hellpoint from Cradle Games Hellpoint will be released this year on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
