“PS5 and Xbox Series X will make the biggest technological leap in the history of the console market” – Head of Gearbox

CEO Gearbox Software Randy Pitchford shared his thoughts on the upcoming next generation consoles. In his opinion, the transition to Playstation 5 and Xbox series x will be the most significant in the history of the console market – even more significant than the jump from 2D to 3D in the nineties of the last century

“I believe that buyers will understand for themselves how big the difference in the bandwidth of the new platforms is. It’s just not real.”

“In the entire history of consoles, I have not seen such a big technological leap as in the case of PS5 and Xbox Series X. Even with the transition from 2D to 3D. With the advent of new consoles, the very way we think about the gaming experience will change.”

Pitchford noted that these changes will be difficult to notice in the games of the starting line, because the work on many of them was carried out taking into account the past technologies and by and large they look like ports of existing games rethought for new platforms. The difference will be noticeable only in the future, when the developers fully understand the features of the new console hardware.

One project of this kind will be a shooter Borderlands 3, whose release was recently confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X / S. Owners of copies for PS4 and Xbox One will be able to get a free upgrade to the nextgen versions, which will offer gamers support for the 4K / 60FPS standard and the new split-screen mode for three or four players.

Gearbox currently preparing to release a looter slasher Godfallwhich will be available for PS5 and PC.
