Protecting the industry even during a pandemic: rating agencies PEGI and ESRB will continue to evaluate gaming content

According to the portal IGNrating gaming agencies ESRB (North America) and Pegi (Europe) will continue their work during the coronavirus pandemic remotely. Unlike the Japanese organization CERO, Western companies will not stop the process of age rating of products.

ESRB Statement:

“Thanks to careful planning, the ESRB has been working remotely since March 16 due to the outbreak of COVID-19. There are no delays in assigning ratings. We will continue to assign ratings remotely as long as necessary. ”

PEGI statement:

“In short: yes, we are currently working remotely with minimal impact on our operations. When this situation began to unfold in Europe a couple of weeks ago, we quickly found a way to continue our daily activities, working remotely. Given that PEGI (in Brussels) works with two independent administrators located in the Netherlands and the UK, and they deal with publishers around the world that we do not need to meet in person, remote collaboration has always been part of our work. But now it comes from home, not from different offices. We informed the companies using the PEGI system that until the local authorities announce a change in the current measures, we will work this way. But so far the impact of the pandemic and the measures taken has been minimal. ”

After the introduction of a state of emergency in Japan in connection with the spread of coronavirus, CERO announced the termination of work until May. During this period, developers will not be able to get an assessment of their products from specialists.
