Company Samsung Electronics introduced the first consumer solid state drive with interface PCIe 4.0 NVMe – Samsung SSD 980 PRO… According to the creators, the novelty is designed for maximum performance of PCs, workstations and game consoles.
Samsung emphasizes that the SSD 980 PRO is optimized for data intensive work and is well suited for those who work with content 4K and 8K and plays graphically demanding games. All key components of the device, including a custom controller Elpis, V-NAND and DRAMare designed to realize the full potential of PCIe 4.0, the description says.
The 980 PRO delivers sequential read and write speeds of up to 7000 MB / s and 5000 MB / s, respectively, and random read and write speeds up to 1000K IOPS, which is twice as fast as PCIe 3.0 and up to 12.7 times faster than solid state SATA drives.
The manufacturer notes that most modern high-performance NVMe SSDs use external copper heatsinks to dissipate heat, but the Samsung 980 PRO has a nickel plating on the controller, as well as a heat spreader sticker on the back for efficient temperature control.
The innovative heat dissipation features also allow the drive to maintain a compact and slim M.2 form factor. Technology Samsung Dynamic Thermal Guard Helps to keep the drive temperature at an optimal level, minimizing performance fluctuations during prolonged operation.
In Russia, Samsung SSD 980 PRO models with a capacity 1 TB, 500 GB and 250 GB will go on sale in October and 2 TBthe model will be available before the end of the year. Manufacturer’s recommended retail prices for 980 PRO in Russia – from 7,490 rubles per 250 GB model… More information can be found on the official website.
