Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that as of July 18, 2023, the company was able to implement over 10 million PlayStation 5 worldwide… This makes the console the fastest selling console in the history of the brand.
GamesIndustry.biz notes that the PS5 hit a significant milestone one month faster than the PS4. According to the CEO of SIE Jim Ryan, PS5 has seen “double-digit growth” in terms of player engagement (this includes monthly active users and their time spent playing) compared to the PS4 release.
The head of the SIE did not say in which market the console is in the highest demand, but the executive did not expect the PS5 release to make a lot of noise in China. According to Ryan, Sony shipped a large batch of consoles to the country, which was dismantled very quickly.
Sales of games from internal studios:
- Spider-Man: Miles Morales – 6.5 million
- Returnal – 560 thousand
- Ratchet & Clank: Through the Worlds – 1.1 Million
- MLB: The Show 21 – 2 million copies (over 4 million players including Game Pass subscribers)
The PS4 sold 10.4 million copies by June 31, 2014, while it was released in the US and Canada on November 15, 2013.
