A new test of the current generation consoles showed that Playstation 5 surpasses Xbox series x for 4K Blu-ray playback quality.
Experts from HDTV Test conducted an exhaustive comparison of Blu-ray performance on both consoles, with detailed analysis of frame rates, color gradients and more. Enthusiasts will find many numbers there to compare, but the average viewer will probably not understand the practical meaning of some of the underlined quantities. Fortunately youtuber Vincent Theo summarized all the most useful information in a more accessible language.
“To summarize, the PS5 is better than the Xbox Series X in terms of 4K Blu-Ray playback. While ordinary viewers will still enjoy the 4K HDR quality on the Xbox Series X, when watching Ultra HD Blu-Ray PlayStation 5 provides better color gradation with less pasteurization, higher chroma throughput with less roll-off, and 24 FPS glitch-free output. “
Simply put, the PlayStation 5 is free from random FPS jerks during playback and generally provides better color reproduction.to better reveal the details of the picture when watching 4K Blu-Ray video content. Theo still recommends dedicated 4K Blu-Ray players for avid viewers, but in this test, the Xbox Series X vs. PS5 is clearly the latter.
