Panzar: Forged by Chaos

The genre of online fighters does not leave any choice to its fans. Since the ancient Counter-Strike and ending with the heaped Battlefield 3, we are offered the same, slightly diluted with new ingredients, a dish. Shootings, grenades, machine guns, sometimes tanks and planes – that’s the whole menu. It’s very strange that no one really tried to do the same thing in the fantasy genre, and what’s even more surprising, the first step to this unexplored but promising land was made by the Russian Panzar: Forged by Chaos – almost the first attempt to wrap up a team action film in a colorful fantasy- Wrapper.

Domestic development, licensed CryEngine 3, e-sports – agree, sounds somehow too suspicious. Loud phrases and promises we no longer surprise, but rather scare, but with the brainchild of Panzar Studio to get acquainted is surprisingly nice. In it everything is beautiful, high quality, somehow not in our way. Panzar: Forged by Chaos looks amazing, both in static and in dynamics. Drawing special effects, animation, light and shadow – the developers of the engine could safely use this game as an advertisement of their product. Particularly pleased with the model of characters. For example, the orcs are really brutal, and not just “guys with green skin”, and the Inquisitor, by his looks, is able to cast out demons on this side of the monitor, without the participation of representatives of the church.

However, we return to the main, that is, to the game process. If you do not take into account the unusual setting, then Panzar: Forged by Chaos is a classic sessional thriller with pumping. For each battle, the player receives experience points and gold, and their ratio can be changed by the slider, focusing on either equipment or rapid development. We spend the earned money in the game lobby, where you can buy weapons, make tools and swarm with all sorts of potions and runes. The very same action takes place on combat maps of various sizes, ranging from very tiny ones to really complex, multi-stage arenas.

The fights in Panzar: Forged by Chaos are similar in many respects to the team fights of classic “rolevings”, like the same Warhammer Online. There are basic parameters of characters, branches of talents and various items for enhancing abilities. The only thing that does not, so it’s a dull auto-targeting, so the outcome of the fight depends on quick reaction and other skills of playing shooters. For example, a blow in the back here is much more effective than a frontal one, and having left in a deaf block and pressed to the back, you can hold out until reinforcements arrive. The idea of a team game with specialized, but combining strength classes, the authors adopted from Team Fortress, although the beginner can be discouraged by the process of battle: the crowd is breaking into the center of the map, where it meets the same crowd of enemies and begins a stupid fight.

But the first impression is deceptive, because without a team game there is nothing to catch. Groups in Panzar: Forged by Chaos are very diverse. After all, the game has four races and each has two classes. So do not be surprised if you see a picture of how a huge orc shields a gnome with a cannon, while the Inquisitor drives away the enemies from the graceful elf, and behind them a paladin-healer looms. What is interesting, the team needs any class. Ork-tank in time will put magic protection, the ice magic will immobilize the enemies, the tech gnome will install a stationary turret or a teleporter through half a card, while fast berserkers will start cutting the ham to the festive table, and in the rear of the enemy a couple of inquisitors – local analogues of robbers – Invisible.

I am glad that in the battles all eight classes are actively used, which speaks about the verified balance of the game. There is something to praise and battlefields. They are not only beautiful and strategically thought out, but also interactive – to blow up a wall, laying explosives under it, or to drop an heap of logs on an opponent is as simple as hitting an enemy with a club knee to the ground.

The main thing, for which it is worth to thank the developers, is for the fact that Panzar: Forged by Chaos turned out really fun. The world here is pretentious, parodic and in its own way insane, so that even after one battle you will have only one desire – to grab a club and again to rush into battle.
