One E3 is good, and five is better: the full schedule of gaming exhibitions in 2023

The coronavirus pandemic has had a tremendous impact on both our familiar lives and the gaming industry. Due to WHO recommendations, E3, Tokyo Game Show, gamescom, GDC and many other exhibitions will not be held in 2023. They were simply canceled – including due to a series of bans in the countries where they are held.

However, the industry does not stand still – it needs high-profile announcements, so online exhibitions replaced the offline events. Some developers decided to hold their presentations, others decided to join major online festivals. In the material, we collected all the information about those exhibitions that this summer will be replaced for E3 gamers.

Summer Game Fest

Cyberpunk 2077

One of the largest events organized by Jeff Cayley, host of The Game Awards. Participation in it was confirmed by 2K Games, Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Blizzard, CD Projekt RED, Sony, Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Warner Bros. and other publishers.

The festival has already started and will go on all summer – until August. At the time of publication, there were three broadcasts. At the first, Kayleigh watched the Inside Xbox stream with the audience, demonstrating the first games for the Xbox Series X, at the second they showed Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 remasters, and on the third the Unreal Engine 5 was presented.

Perhaps the most anticipated of the announced demos is Night City Wire by CD Projekt RED. On it, the authors will share new details about Cyberpunk 2077. What exactly will be shown is not reported. This can be either another CGI trailer, or a video with new gameplay. The presentation is scheduled for June 11, the exact time is unknown.

Steam Game Festival

On June 9, the Steam Game Festival will be held as part of the Summer Game Fest. This is a special event with announcements of small games that can be pre-ordered in the Valve store, and their demos will also be available. The show will go all day.

Another important Summer Game Fest exclusive is gamescom: Opening Night Live. This is the gamescom opening ceremony, at which Kayleigh will show new games from top publishers. It will take place on August 24 and will begin at 21:00 Moscow time. The gamescom exhibition itself will not be this year, so this broadcast is, in fact, the only thing left of it.

Ubisoft forward

Assassin’s creed valhalla

French publisher Ubisoft has announced its own conference with exclusive announcements and details about its titles. The event will be held on July 12, the exact time is unknown. Although the publisher has not announced a list of games to be shown, assumptions are easy to make.

The main game of the program should be Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. In May, it was announced with the CGI trailer and the first details, and on Inside Xbox showed a small fragment of the gameplay. At Ubisoft Forward, the publisher is likely to fully present the action gameplay. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla will be released at the end of 2023 on PCs and consoles of the current and next generations.

Until March 2023, Ubisoft promised to release five AAA games. Watch Dogs: Legion, judging by insiders, should be released simultaneously with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – at the end of the year. After E3 2019, the publisher did not share details about the hacker action, so Ubisoft Forward is the best time and place to do this.

Gods & monsters

Gods & Monsters and the Rainbow Six Quarantine are also likely to be broadcast. The first is an analogue of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in the setting of Ancient Greece, and the second is the PvE variation of Rainbow Six Siege. Previously, the games were presented only in short clips, so a lot of details should be expected at Ubisoft Forward.

The fifth AAA release before March 2023, according to insiders, should be Far Cry 6. Nothing is known about it at all, but in the latest Ubisoft report, the game is listed as a “secret AAA title.”

EA Play

Mass effect

Electronic Arts will host the traditional EA Play in early summer. The start of the show will take place on the night of June 11-12 at 2:00 Moscow time. The publisher did not name plans for the exhibition, but in the recent quarterly report you can find some details.

The publisher plans to announce a new game in the EA Sports line, as well as an unnamed EA EA title – journalists suggest that this is a remaster of the Mass Effect trilogy. Electronic Arts will also show four projects from third-party developers. The document said that “many EA games will be released on the Nintendo Switch.” Probably, there will be corresponding announcements on EA Play.

The conference would be a great opportunity to introduce Anthem’s rethinking – but it seems like you can’t hope for it. Recently, one of the creators of the game admitted that a small team is working on it, and the product itself is still in the prototype stage.

Microsoft Conference in July

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II

Before the recent Inside Xbox, which showed several games from third-party developers, Microsoft employees said that their own products will be presented at a separate event in July. Neither date nor list of titles has since been provided.

Do not forget that in recent years Microsoft has acquired a whole group of development studios. Now in the assets of the company there are such teams as Ninja Theory, 343 Industries, Obsidian Entertainment, inXile and others.

Plus, the company has at least Halo Infinite – the flagship shooter that should be one of the first Xbox Series X titles – and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II. The release date of the second is unknown. Perhaps we will hear about her in July.

Summer of gaming

Mortal shell

The event “Summer of gaming” from a major gaming site IGN. The composition of the participants almost completely repeats the Summer Game Fest – there will be the same Blizzard, Microsoft, CD Projekt RED and others. There is so far little information about the event itself. It is only known that it will take place in early June and will become a kind of replacement for E3 2023.

In a recent update on IGN, reporters said Ubisoft has joined the Summer of Gaming list, as well as game studios Bloober Team, Artificial Core, Fabraz and Cold Symmetry. The latter is developing a souls-like action Mortal Shell, in which the protagonist can inhabit the bodies of opponents.

Guerrilla collective

Guerrilla Collective Announcement

Guerrilla Collective will be held from June 6 to 8. The event will be dedicated exclusively to indie developers and their games. The list of confirmed participants includes 11 bit Studios, Rebellion, ZA / UM (Disco Elysium), Larian Studios (Divinity dilogy), Versus Evil and many other lesser-known studios.

PC Gaming Show Presentation

PC gaming show

Along with the Guerrilla Collective, June 6 will host the PC Gaming Show – an event dedicated to PC games. Its main partners are Intel, Epic Games, Humble Bundle, Frontier Developments, Tripwire Interactive and others. The exact start time of the presentation is unknown. But the organizers confirmed that Frankie Ward will return as the host of the event!

Future games show

Announcement of Future Games Show

In the first weeks of June, GamesRadar + will host an hour-long broadcast of the Future Games Show. At the presentation, they will share information about the already announced games of 2023 and future titles.

Journalists, among other things, promise exclusive materials that will be available only at the Future Games Show. Information about the date and time the event begins will be known later.

The organizers of IgroMir 2023 at the time of publication did not specify whether an exhibition is planned this year. Usually it takes place in early October in Moscow. The organizers are likely to monitor the situation and announce the final decision in the summer.

The cancellation of E3 2023 has changed the usual format of announcements in the gaming industry. Previously, we learned about all the news within a couple of days that the exhibition was going on, but now we will have to receive information on new games in batches – throughout the summer. Perhaps there will be more exhibitions – for example, Sony has not yet officially announced when it finally shows the PlayStation 5. According to rumors, a major presentation of the company is scheduled for early June. When the exact information appears, we will update the note.
