This week publisher Electronic Arts and studio Respawn Entertainment conducted an online broadcast for journalists, in which the seventh season in the game was presented Apex legends… We were also able to check out the latest Battle Royale build on test servers.
In the new season, players will have a number of innovations that can affect the gameplay in an interesting way. First of all, the developers will add a third map – Olympus. This is a huge flying city, the population of which was evacuated due to an emergency.
Olympus is in size between Kings Canyon and World’s Edge. At the same time, it compares favorably with the color palette: white buildings, many retail outlets, large sloping fields with purple and green grass, as well as a huge singularity. During the match, portals will be available on the map to quickly move from one location point to another.
In the first couple of weeks after the start of the new season, a tourist mode will be available, within which players can explore the space without fear of being killed.
An important change will be the appearance of technology. However, one should not wait for revelations. A hoverbike for three people is available for movement, which cannot explode, and the damage will be distributed evenly among the players. However, transport will increase the mobility of soldiers. But Respawn won’t let you knock down players.
The third feature is a new character – scientist Mary Horison named Horison. Going into space in order to find a new source of energy, the girl is betrayed by a colleague. However, Horaison longs to return home, for which she creates a black hole, through which she returns. Only it happens after 87 years.
According to the developers, initially Summers was not a tragic, but a negative character, and they were guided by Lex Luthor from DC comics.
A feature of the new heroine is increased mobility (when falling from a great height, the movement speed of Horizon does not decrease) and gravitational anomalies. So, she is able to create a springboard on the ground, on which players can take off to an impressive height. At the same time, the ability also works on new hoverbikes.
The ultimate is a black hole that pulls in players who are in the zone of attraction (in fact, this is a gravitational star from Titanfall 2).
The seventh season in Apex Legends has changed the progression system. Now, for completing challenges, not points will be awarded, but stars. Players will be able to level up the Battle Pass by earning 10 stars.
The crossplay feature will be out of beta soon. Respawn was pleased with its implementation, but the team decided not to stop there. Therefore, along with the start of the seventh season, clubs will become available, which will allow players to unite in groups of interests. However, there are some unpleasant nuances.
Firstly, the maximum number of players in the club will be only 30 people. For some reason, the developers believe that increasing their capacity will provoke chaos. However, if the players ask, the parameters will be changed.
Hashtags will be available to facilitate searches, and club creators will be able to set a filter for newbies. For example, by the level of account development. Judging by the presentation, especially Respawn is proud of the hashtag for LBGTK + players.
For everyone else, censorship was introduced. The developers will not allow creating an emblem from scratch (remember Battlefied and its excellent emblem editor). In addition, you can complain about “offensive” hashtags, names, and so on.
The clubs will allow gamers who play on different platforms to be members. At the same time, Respawn is now considering the possibility of integrating cross-progression.
At the presentation, the developers rather sparingly commented on the situation with the new platforms. Yes, Apex Legends is coming to Xbox series x and PS5… However, at the start of sales, the shooter will be launched in backward compatibility mode. However, this will speed up downloads, improve performance and image quality (due to less aggressive dynamic resolution).
It is still not entirely clear what owners should expect Nintendo Switch… Earlier it was announced that the release of the port had to be postponed to 2023. The developers ignored the question about the technical details of this version of Apex Legends, but noted that they are aiming for a player-identical experience across all platforms.
