Company Nintendo announced the discontinuation of sales of a collection of platformers Super Mario 3D All-Stars (our review) for console Nintendo Switch in digital format. In retail stores around the world, it will still be possible to buy cartridges, but only until the stock runs out – there will be no new deliveries from the platform holder.
This concludes the Super Mario 35th Anniversary Celebration… Nintendo thanked fans for their attention and promised to please them with new interesting games with a mustachioed plumber in the future.
Nintendo previously explained that it has decided to release Super Mario 3D All-Stars for a limited time to make the 35th anniversary celebration more memorable.… However, no celebration goes on forever, and the collection of classic platformers, respectively, also decided not to sell on an ongoing basis.
Nintendo also shut down servers on the night of April 1 Super Mario Bros. 35 and removed this Super Mario Anniversary game from the eShop.
The official Japanese retail store, Nintendo, based in Tokyo, simultaneously stopped selling 35th Anniversary Super Mario merchandise and removed the remaining cartridges from the shelves.
In the past, Nintendo has already practiced releasing games in limited quantities and for a specific period of time. For example, the circulation of the collection Metroid prime trilogy on the Wii was limited to 500,000 copies, even though the company could have sold more and Xenoblade chronicles for the same Wii was produced in the USA exclusively in the retail network GameStop and was never reprinted despite the interest of the audience. The case with Super Mario 3D All-Stars turned out to be the most high-profile, since we are talking about the most popular Nintendo franchise, and everything happens in the era of advanced digital distribution. Hits-multimillionaires usually do not disappear from the sale just like that.
Until recently, many users hoped that Nintendo would change its mind or release the games from the collection in the eShop separately after March 31, but this did not happen.
Against this backdrop, the players staged a “funeral” for Mario online. They call March 31 the day of the character’s death and post thematic images. Edition Nintendo life even recorded a video of the hero’s “funeral”.
