MSI Vigor GK20 Affordable Gaming Keyboard Review

We continue our acquaintance with gaming accessories from the company MSI… Recently our site told about a wired mouse Clutch GM08 and rug Agility GD60… Today we have another useful device in our program – an entry-level gaming keyboard Vigor GK20… Its official cost in Russia is 2799 rubles

COMPLETE SET AND APPEARANCE

The keyboard comes in a double-layer cardboard box, mostly white with black and gray sides – the box for the Clutch GM08 is made in the same style. The keyboard itself is shown on the front, there is the MSI logo, the model name and the type of device are indicated – Gaming Keyboard. On the reverse side, the manufacturer told about the features of the keyboard, and also listed the system requirements.

Inside, the keyboard is packed in a plastic transparent bag, which lies in a formatted black cardboard with a neatly hidden wire in a special compartment. Under this cardboard you will also find short instructions in 27 languages, including Russian, as well as an appendix with information about the warranty in the Russian Federation.

Vigor GK20 is a full-size membrane keyboard. Dimensions – 455 x 171 x 34 mm. It is made mainly of matte plastic, although there are glossy inserts on the sides and in the area of the wrist rest, which sooner or later will be covered with scratches and stains from the fingers. At the same time, inside under the plastic, according to the manufacturer, an aluminum frame is hidden, which ensures the reliability of the structure. The wrist rest is not very large here and is only 30 mm wide, but it is enough for a comfortable palm rest. It bears the MSI logo. In the upper right corner there are three indicators for activating the Num Lock, Caps Lock and Windows Button Lock functions.

At the bottom of the keyboard, there are three rubber feet that prevent the keyboard from sliding during operation, as well as two feet at the back, with the ability to adjust the angle of rise.

The cable is in the middle of the back of the device and cannot be disconnected. Its length is 1.8 meters, and it is made of standard black PVC braid. Connection takes place via a standard USB Type-A connector, the tip is gold-plated.

Product weight without wire is 808 grams, with wire – 848 grams.

KEYS, FEATURES & BACKLIGHT

All keys, except for the space bar, have a concave surface and are made of plastic, pleasant to the touch. The concave surface that follows the shape of the pads makes the keyboard not only comfortable to play, but also very pleasant to type. This review was just written on the Vigor GK20, and there were no touches or accidental pressing of adjacent keys throughout the entire period of operation. Also worth noting is the very nice font of the English layout and function buttons.

The manufacturer did not forget to equip the keyboard with hot keys, which are activated when a button with the MSI dragon logo is combined. Combined with the F9-F12 buttons, you can control playback and track switching in the player. The Print Screen, Scroll Lock and Pause buttons are responsible for adjusting and mute the sound. Using the up and down arrows, you can adjust the brightness level of the backlight, and with the Insert button, you can adjust its effect. Combined with the Windows button on the left side, you can activate Game Mode, which blocks the Windows button.

One of the main features of the Vigor GK20 is a waterproof coating that will protect your keyboard from accidental water splashing on it. This, of course, does not mean that it can be immersed in a full bath or washed under the tap. It’s just that the key block is protected from splashes, the total volume of which does not exceed, according to the manufacturer who conducted the test, 60 milliliters. That is, if you drip tea / coffee / water on the keyboard, then something is unlikely to happen to it. But we did not check it. Drainage channels are provided inside to drain water, which are located under the wrist rest.

The manufacturer did not forget about the gaming features, equipping the keyboard with the Anti-Ghosting function. More precisely, 12 keys (QWER ASDF ZXCV), which are most often used in games for the most important functions. The essence of this technology is to prevent false clicks, which suffer from membrane keyboards. Of course, 12 buttons isn’t that many. In shooters, they may well be enough, but in online RPGs or MOBAs, this is unlikely to be enough.

The keyboard is not without backlighting. However, there is no way to change the colors, and the only option offers a rainbow gradient. However, the brightness and effect of the backlight can be adjusted. There are three levels of backlight brightness, and in addition to the static glow, you can switch it to the breathing effect – smooth flickering. The only good news is that under the keys the manufacturer has placed a full-fledged backlit panel, which surrounds each key with light on all sides, as if framing it. Looks good in a dark room.

RESULTS

The MSI Vigor GK20 is a good keyboard that is not only good for gaming, but also good for typing large texts. The backlight, although rainbow, perfectly emphasizes the gaming place and allows you to comfortably use the device even in a dark room. Moisture protection, perhaps, will save the Vigor GK20 from a sudden attack of handshaking, but it is better not to risk it, even if you like to sit at the computer with tart coffee. All this together and even more (do not forget about the Anti-Ghosting function) is offered for a very reasonable price tag. I would point out that this is a tempting offer in this price segment.
