Microsoft temporarily banned changing images on Xbox Live profiles – review

Microsoft reported that due to the coronavirus pandemic and the transition of many people to remote work, a 775-percent increase in the load on the corporation’s cloud services was recorded. This applies to both specialized and gaming systems. In particular, growth was noted in the Teams corporate messenger and the gaming system Xbox live.

Therefore, the company decided to introduce time limits on some user actions. In particular, changing images in user profiles, clubs, and club backgrounds on Xbox Live is temporarily prohibited. Once the situation stabilizes, this will be resolved again.

In addition, the company is negotiating with game publishers on reducing the network load. To do this, they are invited to deploy large-scale game updates in those hours when traffic is minimal.

Note that earlier Netflix, YouTube and others have reduced video quality to reduce the burden on European communication channels.
