With an exit Windows 11 users will find it harder to set Firefox, Chrome, Opera or Vivaldi as their default browser. Microsoft will offer to change the browser the first time you open the link, but it will only do it once. If the owners of the new operating system ignore the request and do not select the “always use this program” option, then they will have to sweat.
What’s more, Microsoft has changed the way Windows 11 assigns applications by default. The system will now install the preferred program for each extension separately. For example, in the case of Chrome, Windows 11 will suggest using a browser to open files of type HTM, HTML, PDF, SHTML, SVG, WEBP, XHT, XHTML, FTP, HTTP, and HTTPS.
As a result, the application is assigned only to the main extensions, the rest of the files are opened by the previously used program, and some actions can be performed only in a standard browser: searches in the Start menu and widgets go through Edge.
