Microsoft begins public testing of Dolby Vision in games on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S

Members Xbox Series X / S report that with the latest system update Microsoft has added the promised support Dolby Vision playing games on compatible TVs. Currently, the benefits of technology can be appreciated in a number of selected projects. To do this, you must be a member of the insider program with alpha ring access.

According to incoming reports, support for Dolby Vision is already available to testers in at least six games, including Sniper elite 4, Marvel’s avengers, Borderlands 3, Gears 5, Wreckfest and Halo: The Master Chief Collection… Perhaps there are more of them, but there is no complete list on the network yet.

In a comment for Forbes, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that Dolby Vision support for Xbox Series games will arrive in 2023 and is currently being tested. In the near future, the company will publish more information about the functionality and the timing of its availability.

Dolby Vision is noted to deliver better brightness, contrast, color and depth than HDR10, offering 40 times brighter highlights, 10 times deeper black levels and support for color depths up to 12-bit.

At the moment, Xbox Series X / S are the only consoles of the current generation for which Dolby Vision compatibility is declared.
