Actor Hugo Weaving will still appear in the movie “The Matrix: Resurrection“, however, its role will be severely limited.
According to information One take news, Weaving’s return to the image of Agent Smith will take place in flashbacks to the first three parts of the saga… The portal describes them as “instant appearances” composed of archived footage.
As specified by OTN, flashbacks will take place in parallel with the events of “Resurrection”. For example, if someone repeats a phrase that Smith said in the original trilogy, the screen will show how Smith himself pronounced it.
Weaving’s return to fourth “The matrix“was planned from the start. He was present at the script readout and costume fitting, however a few months before filming began. Lana Wachowski relieved him of his role because she wanted him to fulfill his previous obligations under other contracts.
The fact that Weaving is not directly involved in the film does not mean that Agent Smith will not be able to present Neo with a fresh batch of trouble. Numerous sources also told OTN that Smith will appear in Matrix 4 not only as flashbacks (he is allegedly even in the first trailer)… Perhaps another actor will play him in the main plot, as happened with Morpheus.
“Matrix: Resurrection” starts in Russian cinemas December 16, and will appear on the HBO Max streaming service on December 22.
