Mad Chinese Action Comedy: A Chinatown Detective Trilogy Review

Chinese cinema has made significant progress over the past five years, displaying not only original oriental fantasy, but fantastic budgets as well. “Chinatown detective“- this is currently a trilogy of films from Chen Xicheng with Wang Baoqiang and Liu Haojan starring, which grossed over a billion dollars at the box office.

Starting with adventures in Bangkok, the story has evolved significantly, turning into a comic book analog by the third chapter. Bubble or even the universe Marvel… Whatever it was, but the first “Detective”Begins with Qin Feng, who has failed his exams at the Police Academy, comes to visit his uncle in Bangkok, where he finds himself in the middle of a convoluted crime of murder and robbery. Unlike the unlucky Tang Ren, Qin possesses a photographic memory and superb deduction. As a result, carnival chases are mixed with the investigation of intricate crimes, where the real villain will not be revealed until the final frames. And this is combined with references to the best works. Jackie Chan really makes you watch the movie to the end. However, with an interesting presentation, too direct toilet humor and shameful jokes evoke rather mixed feelings. But if you master the first part, then everything will only be brighter and more ambitious further.

In the second film, the heroes go to America, where an application for detectives appears on the stage and a team of superheroes begins to form. With an increased budget, Chen Sicheng happily spends money on flashy disguises, massive fights, and even more gags. The Chinese are stereotyping about the American way of life, from gay bars to police bums. A NYPD chief with a haircut and a portrait of Trump only finishes off the wild visuals. It is not surprising that the picture has such a low rating on Western appraisal services. At the same time, the jokes in the second part are as close and understandable to the Russian audience as possible, which makes viewing as comfortable as possible. It is strange that the film has not yet been bought for Russian distribution.

A real conflagration erupts by the third film, when Qin and Tang arrive in Japan to investigate a murder in a closed room. The screen frenzy begins right with a massive fight at the airport, jumping into mario-karting on the way to the Yakuza in the bathhouse. “I’m Cutting My Finger,” the Sumo fight and the subsequent morgue scene are some of the highlights in comedy in the past few years. And Chen Sicheng does not stop, throwing massive city chases, a crowded cosplay festival and a completely sudden dramatic turn in the collector with an eyeliner for the next film, which, apparently, will take place in London. And there is nothing surprising in the fact that “Chinatown Detective 3”In the first three months collected more than $ 700 million at home. This is a very bright, funny and captivating movie with situational humor. The best comedy we’ve seen in the last two years. So don’t miss it, even breaking through the not-so-strong first part.
