Lukashenka will be left without tanks? The head of Wargaming.net can evacuate employees from Belarus

Publisher Wargaming.net is considering the possibility of transferring employees of the Belarusian office to other countries – in case of force majeure. The initiative comes from the head of the company Victor Kisly.

A wave of rallies and strikes swept across Belarus this week. Thousands of people took to the streets to express their disagreement with the results of the presidential elections in which the current head of state Alexander Lukashenko won over 80% of the votes.

The Belarusians have grounds for discontent, because the election campaign turned out to be incredibly dirty. So, two opposition candidates are now in jail: banker Victor Babariko and blogger Sergey Tikhanovsky… Another candidate is Valery Tsepkalo – with children left Belarus for Russia, fearing arrest. A registered candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya (Sergei Tikhanovsky’s wife) left for Lithuania after being forcibly held for several hours in the building of the Central Election Commission of Belarus.

The authorities responded to the protests as harshly as possible. On the web, you can see many videos of how riot policemen beat even bystanders, shoot at windows and throw flashbang grenades at the crowd.

Big business also faced problems. So, law enforcement officers raided the Minsk offices with searches “Yandex“and Uber… Presumably, the authorities wanted to gain access to the personal data of people who travel by taxi (both companies work in this area), which would allow them to calculate the routes of movement of the protesters.

As for Wargaming.net, on August 13 it was reported that the security forces moved to the creators’ office World of Tanks… Later, they began to deny the information, but those employees who were in the office (most of them work remotely due to the pandemic) was recommended return home.

Information about the existence of risks for the company’s business is confirmed by the statements of Viktor Kisly. According to the portal App2top.ru, Wargaming.net management is exploring options for transferring employees of the Belarusian branch to other countries. However, the CEO is urging not to panic prematurely.

“We are working on an option for remote work at will: Kiev, St. Petersburg, Nicosia and other options,” – added Kisly in an address to his subordinates.

Note that the head office of Wargaming.net is located in Cyprus, but the publishing house took an active part in the public life of Belarus, conducting entertainment, educational and military-historical events. At the same time, such news neutralizes the efforts of the team of Alexander Lukashenko, who in recent years has tried to turn the country into a “paradise for IT companies.”
