“It’s Time to Forget PS4 and Xbox One”: Digital Foundry Tech Speaks Out For Traditional Console Generations

This year, gaming enthusiasts argue a lot about the difference in approaches to creating exclusive content between Sony and Microsoftwhere the command Playstation has a clear focus on dividing the boundaries between traditional “generations”, and the Xbox team is committed to creating a unified ecosystem where users of a wide variety of gaming devices can enjoy the same games.

He shared his thoughts on this topic in his personal blog John Linneman, one of the specialists Digital foundry, technical department of the publication Eurogamer, introducing a rather radical point of view into the discussion.

Linnemann noted that the transition from an old gaming device to another is a completely natural step, which in no case can be regarded as disrespect for a separate part of the audience… The specialist recalled that console generations have changed throughout history, and this is the most natural process.

“The odd thought that I hear more and more often when it comes to next-gen exclusives … is that releasing them for new devices is supposedly a move against consumers. But it has always been that way. Super Mario 64 did not come out on Super NES and that was great.

From a business standpoint, I understand this position. The desire to reach the widest possible audience is logical. But I don’t understand how the release of exclusives for new devices can be viewed in a negative light, such statements simply baffle me, “the expert said.

In response to the journalist’s messages, one of the users tried to argue with him, explaining that if the industry has adhered to a certain practice for 25 years, this does not mean that the situation cannot change. As a counterargument, the idea was voiced that modern games are easily customizable, just like on PC, so there is simply no reason for platform holders to abandon their release on a wider number of devices.

With similar views Linnemann also could not agree, assuring that, in his opinion, based on communication with industry figures, now the time has come to bury Playstation 4 and Xbox one

“Nobody wants to work with weak processes on the Jaguar architecture anymore. I talked with the developers, who clearly explained to me how hard it is for them now. It’s time to forget about Xbox One and PS4,” the journalist concluded.

Launch of new generation gaming systems Playstation 5 and Xbox series x will take place before the end of this year.
