In an open letter, the studio announced that it had made the difficult decision to end all work on a major Anthem update.also known as Anthem NEXT, which should have brought with it many improvements and new content for the game.
Development of Anthem Next started at the end of 2019, and during the construction process, the team managed to share several details of the update with the community. The studio noted that it was pleasant to observe the positive reaction of the community and is proud of the work done, however, 2023, for a well-known reason, made its own adjustments to the studio’s plans. Due to the pandemic, developers, like many in the industry, had to switch to work from home, which greatly affected productivity and everything that BioWare planned before COVID-19.
“I know the news will disappoint the Anthem community, who were excited to follow the improvements being made. The team was also disappointed as they did a brilliant job. For me personally, Anthem is what brought me to BioWare, and the last two years have been one of the most difficult and rewarding events in my career.
Game development is a complex process and decisions like this are not easy. Moving forward, we need to focus our efforts as a studio on the next installments of Dragon Age and Mass Effect, while continuing to release quality updates to Star Wars: The Old Republic, “said Christian Daly, Executive Producer at BioWare Austin.
BioWare thanked the community for their interest and support. The current version of Anthem will continue to work as it is today for a while.…
