Insomniac: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is designed to be fun, not satisfy the most elite players

Series Ratchet & Clank has always been famous for its rather hardcore gameplay, designed for avid gamers. However, in recent years Insomniac Games redefined its approach to the level of complexity, deciding to make future projects available to a wider audience.

In conversation with Axios Gaming game director Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Mike Daly said that the team tried to get rid of the imposition of unnecessary complexity so that any users could enjoy the game.

“We kind of rejected the conventional wisdom that games have to be tough to be fun,” says the developer.

Insomniac Games no longer relies on the “most elite players”, the studio wants to give each customer exactly the experience they expect.

“This is the most important thing for us,” Daly sums up.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart turned out to be an uncomplicated game in the end, it even has the ability to skip puzzles, as in The Last of Us Part II. According to Mike Fitzgerald from Insomniac, adding such an option to the game “was unthinkable three to five years ago.”

Insomniac Games’ position is shared by many other developers. Recently Double fine announced that Psychonauts 2 will have an invulnerability mode. The studio believes that everyone should enjoy games regardless of age and needs.
