Shortly before the release of the original game, Obsidian announced that The Outer Worlds could be a trilogy. The rights to the franchise are owned by Private Division, however, given that Obsidian belongs to Microsoft, the latter would like to see the future of the franchise in the status of its exclusive.
Obsidian is currently working on a massive first-person fantasy RPG Avowed for Xbox Series X / S and PC.
