Edition editor The Verge Tom Warren told yesterday that a cheaper version of the next-generation Xbox, codenamed Lockhart will receive a graphic chip with a capacity of 4 TFLOPS, 7.5 GB of used RAM (Series X allocated 13.5 of 16 GB of RAM for games) and a processor with a reduced clock speed.
Today, however, Warren revised the latest statement. Now the journalist believes that the Lockhart processor will run at the same speed as the Xbox Series X, and the difference will be the GPU with a different frequency and number of processing units.
I’ve been reporting on Xbox Lockhart having a slightly underclocked CPU, but I now believe it’s the same speed as Series X. Just different GPU frequencies and CU counts?

This can be considered good news, since using the exact same processor as the Xbox Series X will reduce the risk that Lockhart will slow down its more powerful brother in next-generation games. The differences mainly come down to resolution: Series X focuses on 4K, while Lockhart focuses on the still huge market for HD TVs.
At the same time, according to Warren, developers of games for Lockhart will be able to independently decide whether to make them in 1080p and 60 FPS, or in 1440p, but with 30 FPS. When the console will be presented officially, it is still unknown.
