Denis Villeneuve expressed interest in continuing the development of the universe “Blade Runner“. In an interview with the publication Empire the director reflected on his sequel, shot thirty years after the original tape Ridley Scott, admitting that he would one day like to return to the neon-flooded Blade Runner world, but only if it is an original story that does not overlap with past paintings.
The Blade Runner’s world is such an inspirational one. The only problem is the word “sequel.” Cinema, as for me, needs original stories, and if you ask me, I would like to look at this universe from a different angle, I will answer: Yes. “But it should be an independent project, something isolated from two previous films. A detective noir story in the world of the future … Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with a dream about it.”
Released in 2017 “Blade Runner 2049“repeated the fate of the original tape, failing to attract a mass audience. At a cost of $ 150 million, the film earned a little more than $ 259 million at the world box office, which did not even pay off the budget. At the same time, the picture was warmly received by critics and won two “Oscars“.
