Everything was better in childhood – the grass is greener, the ice cream is tastier, and the games are more interesting. Perhaps they lacked photorealism or duration, but they were undoubtedly very memorable. In honor of International Children’s Day, the editors of Cybersport.ru decided to recall their favorite childhood games.

My PC appeared early – in 1998. In the evenings, I successfully conquered Paint, made “designer” inscriptions in Word and played in the capital show “Field of Miracles”. Now this game seems as stubborn as possible, and many phrases are stolen by memes. For me, it was a good way to learn something new, as well as to extend a limited time at the computer under the pretext of “learning” – an intellectual game.

My favorites in high school were Heroes of Might and Magic III, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Sims, especially the Makin ‘Magic expansion pack. All these games, including “Field of Miracles”, shaped my views and taste – do good, magic and creativity to the fullest!

My acquaintance with games on the PC began at the age of 6-7 years. Then the main hits were shooters like Quake, Doom and Duke Nukem 3D. For some reason, the first title passed me at the time, I played quite a lot in Doom, but it was Duke Nukem that made the most impression on me. Unlike Doom, it was possible to look up and down, jump, squat, swim underwater, look at yourself in the mirror, drink water to restore health and so on. And it was Duke Nukem 3D that at that moment seemed to me the pinnacle of the gaming industry.

Since I was small and my parents were not allowed to play for a long time, most of the time I watched my father play. And when I had the opportunity to run and shoot myself, my dad included me some level of his preservation. I ran without a special goal, I simply cleaned it and did not know how to go further. Everything changed on Papa’s birthday, when his colleague, whom we invited to visit, showed me a sign of radiation, allowing me to change the level. From that moment on, I saw no reason to play something other than Duke Nukem 3D.

Most of all I remember two levels – with the subway and the flooded city. The first – because of the ability to ride on trailers, the second – because of the design itself. There were also many enemies that I was afraid of like fire – Octabrain. When I met them, I was overwhelmed with emotions and panic began: I fought not only with a virtual opponent, but also with my own fear.

The bosses seemed invincible – either my dad or a cousin, who was four years older than me, dealt with them. I only learned to kill them in the tenth grade: at some point in my childhood I just got tired of the game, but at 16 I remembered about it and came back to go through again. Despite the fact that I have not received any childhood impressions, Duke Nukem still fascinated me very much. I rejoiced at the opportunity to pay money to the strippers, enjoyed the unique levels, each of which had its own chips, and finally dealt with all the bosses. Thank you, 3D Realms, for my happy childhood! It was you who gave me emotions that I did not receive even opening gifts for my birthday or New Year! Remembering the time spent in Duke Nukem 3D will forever remain with me.

I well remember my first game on the PC and how I met her. It is difficult to say how old I was then, but it was a period when my parents still took me to visit me on the birthday of their friends, because they were afraid to leave alone at home.

On one of these visits, when all the adults celebrated and discussed their serious matters, a friend of my parents suggested that I drive the bots into Quake III on his computer. At that time I didn’t have any experience communicating with a PC, so the number of buttons on the keyboard scared me seriously. After a brief briefing, I was left face to face with the bots on a terribly raging map, where I constantly fell from the cliff. It seems that it was Q3DM17 …

By the end of the evening, I was just the god of the arena, the storm of all virtual creatures and devils that my sight could reach. I killed rivals from all weapons and even in a jump! I practically became an e-sports star, although at that moment I did not suspect the existence of this term. I left the guests with sadness, but with a firm promise to myself that I would definitely return and bend all the bots like a king. At that moment, I didn’t even suspect that I owed much of my success to the level of difficulty I Can Win …

My acquaintance with games happened in the village, where young gamers couldn’t unambiguously decide what was better – Sega, Dendy or PlayStation. Because of this, we played with equal degree of ecstasy both in the Comix Zone with Battletoads, and in Syphon FIlter with Crash: NTR. 3D or 2D? What’s the difference!

However, for some reason, for some reason, I remember the Spyro trilogy more than others, in which, as it seemed to us then, there was generally everything that a player could wish for. If you want, collect gems for trading, if you want, run and hit enemies, and if you want, explore the world, helping the locals. In breaks, our dragon was even allowed to ride a skateboard: well, could there be anything cooler?

In Spyro: Year of the Dragon, the variety of mini-games has reached a critical point: almost every level could offer something new there. However, from the original trilogy, I most of all fell in love with the second part – Ripto’s Rage. It’s not that she really was more interesting, it’s just that her image turned out to be broken, and therefore the game hung tight when moving to the final stage. I reached this point ten times with friends, hoping that a miracle would happen now, but no. The final few hours at Ripto’s Rage have remained one of the main secrets of my childhood.

The famous Spider-Man was and remains my favorite superhero. I spent almost all my childhood under the supervision of a friendly neighbor – I read comics with him, watched cartoons and films, and, of course, played games. The most memorable episode of my youth occurred in the warm summer, when my older brother gave me a CD with Spider-Man for my Sega Dreamcast – it was an action game with the simple name Spider-Man.

Now this game looks wild and almost caricatured and certainly can not be compared with a masterpiece from Insomniac Games, but at that time it naturally tore off my roof. The ability to fly on the web, wet bandits, meet cult characters and even try on several costumes was the height of my dreams. And all this gave me Spider-Man.
