One of the genres that it is customary to bury ahead of time is quests. The golden years of puzzle-solving adventure games passed somewhere in the mid-2000s, after which more action-oriented adventures flooded the market. And yet, even today, you can find many excellent representatives of those very “quests” that everyone enjoyed playing some 15 years ago. Cybersport.ru offers to look at a dozen of truly worthy examples that have come out over the past decade.

Blacksad
Rosangela Blackwell recently survived the death of her own aunt – her only relative. Thinking that the worst is over, the girl discovers the ability to talk to the dead, the first of which was Joe Mallone, a detective who died in the 1930s. He tells Rose that he has an incomprehensible connection with the women of the Blackwell clan, and that together they will have to help the souls stuck in our world.
The series of classic point’n’click quests consists of five games, the last of which was released in 2014. Most of the time, the player has to explain to the deceased that their life is over, and help to cross to the next world, but this is not the end of it. Gradually, the story will reveal why the Blackwells are associated with Malone, where the gift of a medium comes from, and will tell many interesting and, most importantly, honest stories that are easy to believe. What is important, the plot is completely completed and does not imply a continuation, and each game is played in a maximum of five hours.
Botanicula
The story of two children living in different worlds, but equally dreaming of escape from their familiar surroundings. Vella lives in a world full of monsters, and must become the next victim of the terrible Mog of Chotra, and Shay is the last surviving human from his home planet, destroyed during the war.
At first glance, unrelated stories are gradually closely intertwined, creating an interesting world. It may not be the best game by Tim Schaefer, who is responsible for The Secrets of Monkey Island, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango, but seeing the quest from the creator of cult games within the genre was truly priceless. The box office says the same: the game was sponsored through Kickstarter and raised the required amount in just nine hours, and by the final it reached the $ 3.3 million mark.
Series Deponia
Remigiusz Michalski has created a trilogy of dark quests, united in the Devil Came Through Here series. It includes The Cat Lady, Downfall and Lorelai – three different at first glance stories, united both thematically and plot.
Michalski does not hesitate to touch upon topics that are usually hushed up: suicide, depression, abuse and other equally important problems. The stories are always full of dark motives and dark humor, as well as overt violence. The Cat Lady talks about the deal with the Devil on behalf of a woman who survived a failed suicide attempt, Downfall addresses the difficulties of dealing with a mentally unstable person (and naturally enters horror territory), and Lorelai for the first time in the series shows a person trying to remain positive in an atmosphere of complete chaos … All this is accompanied by interesting puzzles and really strong stories, even if not suitable for everyone.
Night of the rabbit
Imagine that one day an unknown force pulled you out of the familiar world and transferred you to another, as if woven from scraps of someone’s memories from different times. In such conditions, the hero of Obduction turns out to be: disoriented, lonely, he is forced to deal with the current situation in the hope that a chain of riddles will lead to an explanation of the essence of what is happening and help to get home.
Obduction is a game from the authors of the legendary Myst, and you can feel it in everything: the same complex but logical riddles, an incredibly beautiful world consisting of scattered scraps and the constantly arising feeling that something more is slipping away from you. However, the plot here recedes into second place in front of much more interesting puzzles and a sense of involvement in a mystery. True, you need to be mentally prepared for what will be really difficult – Cyan Inc. have always been famous for extremely difficult puzzles.
Primordia
John Marachek and his family went on a trip in a spaceship. However, upon awakening from stasis, he found not the joyful faces of his wife and daughter, but a destroyed ship full of corpses. There is not a single living soul around, and only hope sustains John’s strength not to surrender and still find the missing family members.
STASIS is a sci-fi quest set in a space horror atmosphere. The developers have diligently reproduced the feel of the games of the late 1990s: isometric perspective, classic point’n’click controls and hard science fiction fit. The game diligently builds up the atmosphere, plus, unlike most games in the genre, you can die here. In ten ways. Many of which are tied to the fact that John decides to end it all himself – the player for “weakness” is kindly rewarded with an achievement.
