Point’n’click games, adventure games or, as they are often called in Russia, quests are always loved by players. Today, the genre is predominantly in decline (although there are pleasant exceptions), but at one time the market was filled with really interesting adventure games. We have already remembered the best Russian escape rooms – it’s time to talk about cult adventures from other countries. The nostalgic express departs, please fasten your seat belts.

The story of Ben Throttle, a biker from an indefinitely distant future, has long been a classic beloved by many. The leader of the Weasel gang found himself in a difficult situation: he was accused of the murder of Malcolm Corley, the last bike manufacturer in the world. In addition, his own motorcycle was broken, and the gang drove off in an unknown direction. Now Ben has to somehow clear his name and prevent the transformation of Corley Motors into a minivan company.
Full Throttle, the brainchild of the famous Tim Schafer, entered the golden fund of the genre due to detailed animation, unique voice acting (Roy Konrad’s voice cannot be confused with anything, and Mark Hamill also contributed) and high-quality humor. Plus, the gameplay variety played a role: it would be very strange to make a game about the leader of a gang of bikers without brawls and other mini-games.

A classic example of everything good and bad, than the genre is remembered for. The story affects two worlds at once: technological Stark and magical Arcadia. You will play for April Ryan – a girl who is able to move between two dimensions, which she learns about almost by accident. At first, she just dreams of strange and unusual places, but later the girl personally goes to the magical world and finds out that she is connected with the divided Earth, and now April has to understand her place in a complex structure that controls the balance of the worlds.
The Longest Journey is distinguished by a well-developed world and attention to detail, as well as completely crazy riddles: everyone who has played will remember at least one of them forever. It is enough to say a short phrase “rubber duck” to trigger a tick in those passing by.

Perhaps one of the most famous quests in history. Myst has been reprinted many times and is still a timeless classic that can challenge the most sophisticated puzzle lover. The plot tells about a mysterious island, which you can get to thanks to a magic book that describes in detail a strange world. Once inside, the player is forced to start exploring the island, regularly bumping into other volumes from the island’s library, also transferring them to new worlds.
For almost ten years, Myst has held the title of the best-selling PC game in history, and for good reason: an interesting plot and really difficult puzzles captivated gamers, and a thoughtful world pulled and pushed to study its features. Remarkably, at the beginning of the game there is almost no backstory, and you have to understand what needs to be done on your own.

The first appearance in video games of a strange couple – the psychopathic hare Max and the much calmer dog Sam. Initially, the heroes appeared on the pages of their own comics, and their creator, Steve Purcell, was also responsible for the transfer to the video game. In Hit the Road, Sam and Max have to solve a big case – the abduction of Bigfoot Bruno from a traveling circus.
1993 Sam and Max has everything that people love quests for: witty dialogues, charismatic characters, interesting puzzles and, of course, humor – here it is quite black, albeit within the 12+ age rating. As the name suggests (Hit the Road), the characters travel across America to various tourist destinations in search of clues. By the way, this is the first LucasArts game to receive full voice acting for all characters and a full soundtrack instead of MIDI tracks. The cartoon visuals still look great, although the game will soon be 30 years old.

Already the fourth part of the adventures of the unsuccessful space cleaner Roger Wilko sends the hero on a journey through time. You can play it even without knowing the plot of the previous three parts, although small details will elude attention. However, nothing critical will be lost.
Roger, traveling in time, zips through many other games in the series – including unreleased games like Space Quest X: Latex Babes of Estros. It’s much more fun to watch Vilko travel back in time, and the graphics change again to the EGA-standard of 1986 (and the hero is ridiculed by a gang of monochrome bikers). Do not forget about the absolutely wonderful in its idiocy “puzzle” with explosives, which can be found in the XII part (again, as you know, from the future).
