The last few months of the year are approaching and, as usual, it seems like publishers are saving their best games for the Christmas rush.
We hope you’ve all got healthy bank balances because holy Jesus is there a hell of a lot of great games on the way. Take a look for yourself and try to figure out where you’re going to find the time and money for them all.
6th September
Destiny 2 – PS4, Xbox One
2014’s Destiny had something of a mixed reception when it first launched. Through a myriad of patches and expansions though, it become one of the most loved multiplayer shooters around, and so its sequel, just mere days away, is a cause for excitement. Destiny 2 promises bigger and better gameplay in almost every way, and we’ve got to admit, we’re looking forward to dipping our toes in.
Knack 2 – PS4
Hooray! Knack 2 is just around the corner! Poor Knack; the PS4 launch title may have sold quite well but it was met with pretty much universal ambivalence. It’s a shame, because it was a great-looking platforming adventure. We’re not ashamed to admit that we’re very much looking forward to having a crack with Knack 2 next month.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider – PS4, Xbox One, PC
It’s been less than a year since Dishonored 2 hit shelves, but the next entry into the award-winning series is already close to landing. Okay, it’s not a full entry, but it’s a standalone expansion that builds upon Dishonored 2‘s gameplay. And hey, more of that can only be a good thing.
Metroid: Samus Returns – 3DS
When Metroid: Samus Returns was announced at E3 2017, cheers erupted around the world. Well, they might have; Nintendo’s showcase was pre-recorded so who knows how people reacted when they watched it. Regardless, people are excited for Samus Returns, a reimagining of Samus’ original 1992 adventure on Game Boy, built from the ground up.

Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite – PS4, Xbox One, PC
Marvel characters and Capcom characters have been at each other’s throats since the 90s, and the latest entry to the popular beat’em up franchise looks to be bigger and better than ever. Much like previous entries Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite pits opponents together in a tag team format, but this time it’s two-on-two rather than three-on-three. There’s a handful of new characters being added too, including Mega Man X and Sigma from Capcom, and Ultron and Gamora from Marvel.

Project CARS 2 – PS4, Xbox One, PC
We’ve had a bit of hands-on time already with Project CARS 2, and we can tell you it’s something worth getting excited over if you enjoy a driving simulator. There’s over 130 tracks, over 180 cars, dynamic weather, enhanced gameplay mechanics, and it looks absolutely fantastic too. Pokken Tournament DX – Switch
Pokken Tournament is the closest thing we’re getting to Pokémon on the Switch just yet. Still, it’s a start, and we’re not complaining; beating up a bunch of crazy creatures is always good fun. This DX version also includes new gameplay modes and new ways to battle with friends, so even if you played the original version on Wii U, it’s probably worth checking out the Switch release.

FIFA ’18 – PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC
EA’s annual football game is just around the corner, so get ready for your copy of FIFA ’17 to be worth £1 on trade-in at CEX! Hooray! It’s coming to Switch this time though, so for the first time you’ll be able to enjoy a bit of mainline FIFA on the go.

Forza Motorsport 7 – Xbox One
Microsoft’s signature racing series is back with its bi-annual sim, and it goes without saying that Forza 7 looks more beautiful than ever. With this, GT Sport and Project Cars 2 all out within a few weeks of each other, 2017 sure is a big year for simulation racing games. If you’re as stoked for Forza Motorsport 7 as we are, bear in mind that you can jump in on the action four days early if you pre-order the Deluxe version of the game.

LEGO The Ninjago Movie: Videogame – PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC
The first of two LEGO games to come out in the latter part of this year, the Ninjago Movie tie-in looks absolutely brilliant. Well, what else would you expect from a LEGO game these days? The game tells the whole story of the film, so perhaps make sure you’ve seen The Ninjago Movie before you jump into the game. We know how you all feel about spoilers.
Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire’s Conspiracy – 3DS
Layton’s Mystery Journey launched earlier this summer on mobile – the first time Professor Layton has ventured outside of the 3DS, in fact. Thankfully, for those of us who don’t really enjoy playing mobile games for extended periods of time, it’s also getting a proper 3DS release. We’ve just had to wait a bit longer for it. What we’ve played of the mobile version seems very promising though, so we’re looking forward to getting cosy with our trusty Nintendo handhelds for this one.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War PS4, Xbox One, PC
2014’s Shadow of Mordor, the open world adventure set in Tolkein’s Lord of the Rings universe, was a surprising hit. What’s not surprising, then, is that its upcoming sequel, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War, looks rather brilliant. It picks up where the last game’s narrative left off, but developers Monolith promise a more personalised gameplay experience this time, with a more RPG approach. Oh, and there are dragons, too.

The Evil Within 2 – PS4, Xbox One, PC
Okay, we admit it. The Evil Within was bloody scary. We may have crapped our pants a little bit. That doesn’t mean we didn’t love it though; and the upcoming sequel, The Evil Within 2, looks set to be even scarier – and more of a mindfuck – than its predecessor. We genuinely can’t wait for this one – just in time for Halloween too.

WWE 2K18 – PS4/Xbox One/Switch/PC
LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE! 2K’s annual wrestling title is still to come this year, so if you enjoy being in control of muscly men in latex chucking each other around, then this is the one for you. WWE 2K18 is also getting a Switch release too, so you can basically wrestle absolutely anywhere you want. If you pre-order the Deluxe or Collector’s Edition, you’ll be rewarded with four days’ early access to the game.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole – PS4, Xbox One,PC
Finally! After a couple of delays, the long-awaited sequel to Stick of Truth is only a couple of months away… well, providing it doesn’t get delayed again. We absolutely loved the 2014 South Park game, and if The Fractured But Whole is even just half as funny as the first, it’s a sure-fire hit. Hell, it’s got Cartman dressed up as a raccoon in it; what more could you possibly want from a AAA video game?

Gran Turismo Sport – PS4
It’s been a long time coming, but PlayStation 4 is finally getting a Gran Turismo game. Sadly, it’s not quite GT7, but Gran Turismo Sport still looks like it’s worth the wait for you petrolheads out there. With 177 cars and 19 locations to race them around, all with various configurations, there’s plenty to stick your teeth into. There’s also Porsches in the game for the first time, too.

Super Mario Odyssey – Switch
The Switch’s first Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey, looks absolutely brilliant. Okay, it’s not a traditional Mario platformer, but when it looks this good, it doesn’t matter. Mario’s fully 3D here, and with an array of new skills thanks to his magical hat Cappy, you’ll be hopping and jumping all around Nintendo’s rendition of New York City — uh, I mean New Donk City. It looks crazy, but we can’t wait for it.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus – PS4, Xbox One, PC
Take control of BJ Blazkowicz once again and shoot Nazis until you have no more bullets left. Then, maybe just punch them. Set in an alternate history in which the Germans occupy America, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus promises to deliver more over-the-top, ultra-violent action, and we can’t wait to get stuck in.
Assassin’s Creed Origins – PS4, Xbox One, PC
We love the Assassin’s Creed series, and with its Egyptian setting and totally revamped gameplay, Assassin’s Creed Origins seems like it may be one of the best of them. It’s a shame that we’ll probably never see any more of Jacob and Evie Frye – who we absolutely adored – but I’m sure we’ll soon get over it when we’re climbing pyramids and fighting giant snakes.

Call of Duty: WWII – PS4, Xbox One, PC
Taking the series back to its roots, Call of Duty: WWII is hoping to win back the fans that have grown tired of its futuristic nonsense as of late. It’s also going to feature a Zombies mode that looks absolutely terrifying. Honestly, it’s been a long time since we’ve been this excited for a Call of Duty game. Let’s hope it delivers the goods.

Need for Speed Payback – PS4, Xbox One, PC
The Need for Speed series makes a return this year with Need for Speed Payback. Promising high-octane thrills throughout a cinematic crime story, you’ll switch between three characters, each with their own driving discipline. Basically it looks like The Fast and the Furious: The Game, which is alright by us.
17th November
Star Wars Battlefront II – PS4, Xbox One, PC
The last Star Wars Battlefront may have disappointed Star Wars fans by being a bit light on content, but it doesn’t seem like Star Wars Battlefront II will suffer from the same problem. Aside from being stuffed with much more multiplayer content, Star Wars Battlefront II will also feature a single player campaign, making it absolutely essential for any Star Wars fan. Preorder the Deluxe Edition if you want access to the game a few days early.
The Sims 4 – PS4, Xbox One
The Sims 4 may have been available on PC for what seems like forever, but console owners will finally be able to get in on the action later this year. Preorder the Deluxe Party Edition if you want access to some exclusive content including the Laser Light Show and some sleek, stylised clothing for your Sims.
LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 – PS4, Xbox One, PC
Nearly four years after the release of the original LEGO Marvel Superheroes comes LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2. Set to feature an expanded cast of heroes and villains including your favourites from Guardians of the Galaxy, LEGO Marvel Superheroes 2 is bound to offer yet more open-world fun for all the family.
Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon – 3DS
Featuring an alternative story that takes place in the same world as Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon as well as some new Pokemon, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon are sure to be winners with Pokemon fans this November. Compatible with all 3DS and 2DS consoles, you’ll probably need to buy both versions to truly see everything, however.
