Video Eldorado“, the largest Russian retail company selling electronics and household appliances, analyzed the demand for wireless devices – smartphones with wireless charging, wireless headphones, speakers, chargers and wearable devices, sales of which reached 240 billion rubles by the end of 2019. In the M. Video-Eldorado Group, the demand for headphones in units grew faster than the market and in units added 11%, in monetary terms it increased at a similar rate to the market. The headphone segment for 2019 increased in quantitative terms by 8% and in money terms by 55% due to the growing popularity of models with a bluetooth audio source, mainly autonomous True Wireless and sports accessories. The fully wireless TWS headphones have become fourfold more popular, they become more affordable due to the expansion of the range. The development of the bluetooth segment is affected by the partial failure of smartphone manufacturers from standard headphone jacks.
  • By 20% in unit terms and 22% in money terms to 1.8 million devices and 8.3 billion rubles, the demand for compact wireless portable speakers increased accordingly. The average bill grew by 2% to 4.7 thousand rubles. The popularity of the category is facilitated by the spread of smartphones and music streaming services, as well as the integration of additional functionality by manufacturers: voice assistants, color music, shock resistance and moisture resistance.   • Wearable devices are gaining mass popularity among Russian users, the demand for them in 2019 doubled in pieces to 5 million copies and almost 90% in monetary terms to more than 32 billion rubles. In the M. Video-Eldorado Group, the demand for the category increased by more than 2.5 times. In conjunction with a smartphone, accessories motivate you to move more often, help you monitor activity and health indicators, follow notifications and make contactless payments. Smart watches account for more than 60% of the cash sales category.

The lack of wires trend extends to other categories, the report says. For example, sales of robotic vacuum cleaners increased by 85%, vertical vacuum cleaners by a third.
