As it turned out from the documents that surfaced during the trial between Apple and Epic Games, Google had truly gigantic plans for the gaming industry. In October 2023, the company planned to become “the largest gaming platform in the world” in five years.
Google was going to release games on PC, Mac, and “smart” displays – all of which the company intended to integrate its network of services. For control, it was supposed to release a “inexpensive universal portable game controller” that users could connect to any device, even a TV.
It is unclear how things are at Google now, as after the virtual failure of Stadia, the company tempered its ambitions in the gaming industry by disbanding its internal studios in February this year.
