Girls choose PlayStation: Female audience of Sony consoles grows to 41%, men – 59%

The female consoles audience has grown significantly over the past twenty years, as evidenced by the company’s latest report Sony Interactive Entertainmentprepared for investors.

As of the end of March 2023 female audience share of the total number of console owners Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 is 41% is an absolute record in the history of Sony.

For comparison, the share of the female audience on the first PlayStation was only eighteen%

As noted in Sony, with the growth of the female audience, the studios began to increase the number of games with female protagonists and simply interesting female characters – there is a natural request for this.

41% is not the limit. The number of girls playing on consoles is expected to continue to grow amid the general popularity of gaming

At the meeting with investors, Sony also confirmed that it will actively expand into emerging markets outside of the main regions (USA, Japan, Europe). These include Russia, China, India, South America, Africa and Asia outside of Japan. In addition to flagship releases for PlayStation consoles, Sony will popularize its gaming brands through PC ports, mobile games, movies, TV series and anime.
