Ginger: Beyond the Crystal

Everything has changed today and this genre, like so many others, have been forgotten and sunk into the background … for me totally unbearable. But fortunately for all of us who still feel a special predilection for this genre, there are still studies (few, that is true) that want to revive this style of titles.

The plot of this adventure is more careful than usual in the genre and, in fact, has a narrator in perfect Spanish and everything. Everything revolves around some crystals of power that, by the work of a mysterious character, have been distributed all over the world and, moreover, have lost their shine. To solve this situation, that is, to find the crystals and puri

fy them, a forest goddess gives life to Ginger , a character difficult to describe that possesses certain powers. And so begins this odyssey plataformera, which never reaches extremely high levels of fun but it is entertaining, especially for less experienced players and, more specifically, for the smallest of the house.

Innocent leaps

Throughout a good shipment of levels divided into different worlds (villages, better said) that serve as HUB , we must find these crystals and, also, the inhabitants of each region. And the way to do it is the usual in this type of titles, that is, bypassing pl

atforms plataformeras, enemies and the odd puzle. Among other skills that Ginger has this character can be disguised in various ways, which allows you to learn new movements and attacks that, often, are often the key to unlock certain secrets.

Ginger Beyond the Crystal analysis

The development is quite simple and never a challenge for anything important.

In this way and although it is a very guided adventure, it is true that we wanted to print a certain degree of backtracking (but slight) that adds some freshness to the title, but come on, we insist that it is not about the game more adult or defiant of the world.

Precisely and except occasional occasion, the title seemed to me a walk. You can graduate the difficulty, it is true, but despite that you can see that it is a game designed especially for the little ones. And because? Because everything is very simple ,

in excess in many cases. From the combats to the sections of platforms and others, everything sin of having been shaped too simply. In additio

n and despite the phases are quite varied within what fits, all are quite short and, sometimes, somewhat bland. Defects that the smallest can ignore or even thank … but that the most experienced users will find too serious.

You can graduate the difficulty, but the game is very easy

Evidently the control system is also very simple, and three buttons are enough to carry out almost all the actions that it is possible to

carry out with Ginger. The handling responds quite well, something that encourages the gameplay, but it is also true that it seemed to me that the protagonist is a more limited character than would be desirable.

The technical finish is not badly outlined, highlighting its sensational color and wide variety of environments and characters.

Another unequivocal proof that this is a child’s game is its aesthetic approach. All the games of Nintendo, TT Games, Activ

ision and other companies belonging to this genre, as well as Rare classics and many other examples that could give you have always opted to create colorful environments and characterscheerful and of infantiloide court … but in t

he case of this work everything has been exaggerated. Pastel colors everywhere, enemies of everything less intimidating and other “soft” elements agree perfectly with the child orientation of the title. Of course, I have not overlooked several g

raphic defects that drag the game, including more or less usual downloads of the frame rate suffered by the PS4 version. But it is also true that it has no impact on the development of the title … and that this problem does not happen in the PC edition.

Quite better resolved has been the sound section, in my opinion the best of the title. The scores sound a bit like the ones we listened to in the aforementioned Rare classic platform works, although they do not reach the quality achieved by the composers of this company.
