Gaming monitors sales grow, ASUS leads

Sales of gaming and portable monitors have been growing for several consecutive years, and it is expected that in 2023, despite the coronavirus pandemic, demand for devices will remain at a high level. This is stated in the report of the analytical agency. Digitimes.

Experts note that in 2016 the global supply of monitors amounted to 1.4-1.5 million units, in 2018 manufacturers sold about 5 million devices, and in 2019 – 7.25 million. Moreover, the total supply of monitors in 2019 reached the mark in 110-120 million.

The leader in the segment of gaming monitors with a share of 16% is the company Asus (number 1 brand in Europe, North America and Japan). At the end of 2019, she was able to sell over 4.3 million devices, 25% of which were gaming, and 5% were portable models. However, the leading manufacturer is becoming more competitive, Digitimes points out. Among them – Samsung (sold approximately 1 million gaming monitors in 2019) and Acer (approached ASUS).

One of the trends is the oversaturation of the TV market, on the background of which suppliers are restructuring production in the direction of increasing the production of computer monitors. This in turn leads to serious price competition in the gaming segment.

ASUS representatives interviewed by analysts noted that they were not interested in participating in price wars. Instead, they rely on the technical characteristics of gaming solutions.

In 2023, ASUS is going to realize about 5 million monitors, the share of gaming should be 30% or 1.5 million units.

As for portable monitors directly, in total about 320-330 thousand devices were released in 2019, and over 200 thousand of them were made by ASUS. In 2023, the company intends to supply 300 thousand of such monitors and make the main emphasis on solutions in the price range of 149-349 dollars. In total, this year the segment is expected to grow to 400 thousand.

The second largest player in the portable monitor market is HP. Competition leaders are now seeking to make Acer, Aoc and Lenovo. They have 3-4% market share, ASUS – 65%, HP – 16%, according to a Digitimes report.
