Games for Nintendo Switch continue to conquer the British market, a remake of Resident Evil 3 fell out of dozens

Sales of boxed games for the Nintendo Switch are growing from week to week as British retailers get more and more games in short supply of consoles.

In the reporting week, for the first time since the launch, the life simulator returned to the top Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Nintendo Switch exclusive console sales rose immediately by 53%.

Despite a slight drop in sales (-1%), the football simulator had to move to the second line FIFA 20 from EA.

Another Nintendo Switch exclusive platform continues to grow inexorably – a fitness game Ring fit adventure. Under the current regime of self-isolation, an innovative adventure project seems to be a great way to keep fit, but Nintendo has not been able to meet high demand for a long time. Over the past three weeks, an increase in regular deliveries has allowed Ring fit adventure first get to the twenty-fifth position, then close the TOP-10, and now break through to the fourth line of the British chart (+ 95% compared to the previous week). The entire circulation of fitness games in the UK is again sold out.

Among other major Switch-exclusives, we note the seventh line of the racing arcade Mario Kart 8: Deluxe (+ 10%) and ninth position adventure game Luigi’s Mansion 3.

The reporting week did without major physical releases. The only new game in the TOP-40 was the role-playing game Trials of mana from Square Enix, which is located on the sixteenth line of the chart. If we take the distribution by platform, then 61% of the physical copies fell on Switch, and the rest on the PlayStation 4.

As for the latest releases of this month, another RPG “birdhouses” entitled Final Fantasy 7 Remake already dropped to eighth position (-50%), and a remake Resident evil 3 from Capcom generally dropped out of the TOP 10 and is now located on the seventeenth line.

Overall, UK retail shows relative stability. In the reporting week, as a week earlier, about 200,000 physical copies of the games were sold. These figures are still higher than the “pre-isolation” ones – weekly figures then reached only 150,000. However, they are still fading from sales (350,000 units) during the first weeks after the introduction of restrictions on the distribution of coronavirus.

The top ten best-selling physical games in the UK for the week ending April 25:

  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons
  2. FIFA 20
  3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
  4. Ring fit adventure
  5. Grand theft auto 5
  6. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
  7. Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
  8. Final Fantasy 7: Remake
  9. Luigi’s Mansion 3
  10. Red dead redemption 2
