Legendary Japanese game designer Shigeru Miyamoto from company Nintendoinvented Super mario and The legend of zelda, received during his long career a huge number of awards and bonuses. Recently he has become the first representative of the industry, officially included in the prestigious list of outstanding cultural figures of Japan – he was awarded the state title of Person of Cultural Merit.
However, the 67-year-old developer emphasizes that he does not associate all these awards solely with himself. In an interview with Famitsu, Miyamoto admitted that he was embarrassed to receive the next rank alone, since creating games is a collective process. Working alone, he could never reach such heights, the master emphasized.
“Games are not created by the efforts of one single person, so I’m somewhat upset that I accepted this award [Person of Cultular Merit] lonely. The colleagues with whom we started working 40 years ago still work with me and continue to work with developers around the world. I am deeply grateful that our team was appreciated. And I am grateful that video games are a recognized heritage of Japanese culture. “I will continue to work hard to make people smile in the most different corners of our planet,” he said.
Shigeru Miyamoto participated in the creation of almost all Nintendo consoles and produced a large number of games. Some of his projects were recognized by experts and other developers as revolutionary and reflected on the development of various genres.
In recent years, Miyamoto has fallen into the background somewhat and has become less likely to appear in public, focusing on projects such as full-length animated film about Mario, one of the producers of which he acts, and Amusement parks Super Nintendo World.
