US officials are trying to block the agreement between the studio Riot games and the female part of the team to pay $ 10 million in compensation for discrimination.
This is a lawsuit that was filed in 2018. Management and staff of the studio in charge of League of Legends, accused of sexism and harassment. Thus, preference in hiring was given to men, and women received lower salaries.
As a result, the parties agreed on a settlement: each of the employees hired over the past five years will receive compensation from the fund, which amounts to $ 10 million. The difference between salaries will also be eliminated.
But immediately several state agencies were unsatisfied with the outcome. Representatives of the state of California believe that the plaintiffs should have received more than 400 million dollars. At the same time, you need to understand that the amount of $ 10 million has already become the largest ever involved in discrimination cases in the state.
Officials consider the measures to eliminate the “toxic atmosphere” in the Riot Games office to be insufficient, and note that the studio made gross errors in determining the size of payments. It is curious that even the plaintiffs themselves, who did not find any errors, did not support part of the claims of state agencies.
In turn, Riot Games accused the state authorities of trying to destroy the settlement by false accusations and inaccuracies. Given this, the parties are preparing for trial.
Note that the state of California is controlled by the US Democratic Party.
