The situation around the Frogwares-Nacon case took a new turn. February 26th detective horror The sinking city returned on sale in Steam, however the developers published open appeal, which urged not to buy this game…
This is due to the fact that the version of The Sinking City, which again began to be sold in the Valve store, apparently was published by Nacon without the knowledge of the Frogwares studio. Besides, the returned project, for some reason, was deprived of some of the functionality, including DLC, achievements and cloud saves…
Despite the reduced from 3,749 rubles to 399 rubles the price (including a 60% discount), users were hostile to the cut-down version of the game, and the developers had to explain on Twitter that they had not worked on this release and did not recommend buying it. Frogwares promised to share some news from their side later.
The Sinking City was removed from most digital stores in 2023 following a legal dispute between Frogwares and Nacon… The developers argued that the publisher did not provide the financial support promised under the contract and withheld the exact information in the income statements, while Nacon called the studio’s statement an attempt to discredit them in the eyes of the public.
In January 2023, a preliminary ruling in the case determined that Frogwares had terminated its contract with Nacon in an illegal manner and thus ordered its terms reinstated. Accordingly, The Sinking City was returned to Steam and other stores, but almost immediately disappeared again without explanation, although it remained (and remains) available in the Microsoft Store. The game is also sold on Origin, but has never been removed from this storefront, and should be released soon. PS Store as a reissue for Playstation 5… It will be released by Frogwares itself.
