Firefox 84 plans to remove code to support Adobe Flash – review

In December, the release of Firefox 84 is expected, in which it is planned to remove code associated with support for Adobe Flash. However, some users may lose their flash technology earlier. This applies to categories that are testing strict isolation mode for Fission pages.

Thus, after upgrading to Firefox 84, the browser will no longer be able to use Flash. This should increase the security of the browser as a whole. Note that by default, the launch of flash clips is disabled since Firefox 69, although the activation option for certain sites still works.

If everything goes according to plan, then at the end of the year the “red” browser will finally lose support for NPAPI plugins. Earlier, data was removed from the code for working with Silverlight, Java, Unity, Gnome Shell Integration and support for multimedia codecs.

However, it is possible that a complete rejection of Adobe Flash will be postponed, although the development company itself plans to end support at the end of this year. Unless the source codes are opened there and passed to the community, but this is unlikely.
