Google Chrome developers have added support for a new memory management feature called SegmentHeap in an earlier version of the web browser. This should reduce RAM consumption in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.
At the moment, this feature is already implemented in the 64-bit Chrome Canary assembly under the number 85.0.4182.0. Thus, soon it will appear in the release version of the browser. At the same time, we note that Microsoft Edge based on Chromium support for SegmentHeap was launched as part of a recent upgrade to version 2004.
Judging by early data, this will provide up to 27% of RAM savings, although everything will depend on the specific site, browser mode, and so on. The creators of Firefox have not yet announced the introduction of such support.
