Control: Ultimate Edition PS5 Technical Analysis – Low Settings Graphics from PC

Team Digital foundry returned with another technical analysis. This time, the nextgen port was in the hands of specialists Control: Ultimate Edition, namely its console version Playstation 5

The first key difference noted is download speed. Launching the game from the main menu takes only 5 seconds on PS5 versus 36 seconds on PS4 Pro, and loading after death in the same location is three times faster on PS5 than on PS4 Pro… At the same time, the problem with slow loading of textures disappeared.

Digital Foundry went on to highlight the impressive ray tracing implementation that dramatically increases the visual realism of the game. Reflections are used in everything from pools of blood to mirrors and even small objects like a glass coffee pot.… Graphical ray tracing also dramatically changes shading and reflections in opaque materials such as marble and metal.

Frame rate testing revealed the following: when playing with ray tracing, the frame rate is kept at a stable 30 frames per second most of the time, including combat collisions and moments where strong drawdowns were observed on PS4, while the performance mode allows you to pass the game at 60 FPS almost always, except for cases with small drawdowns in scenes with an abundance of explosions or particle effects in the frame. The resolution in both cases is 1440p.

Compared to the computer version, the PS5 port operates at settings equivalent to the minimum on a PC, including two custom parameters: ray tracing is performed in staggered resolution, and LOD (level of detail for objects at a distance) has an even lower value, however, Digital Foundry notes that even in this form, the game is clearly a big step forward compared to the versions for the previous generation.
