Comparison of versions of The Wonderful 101 Remastered: Not So Miraculous Remaster

Reissue will go on sale on May 19 The Wonderful 101 from studio Platinum games. The original game was released in 2013 as an exclusive for Wii U, but the low interest in the console from the audience affected the sales of the project.

Seven years later, the Japanese studio enlisted the support of backers on Kickstarterto republish The Wonderful 101 on PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. However, none of the versions can be called ideal.

Journalists Digital foundry examined all the available options. On Wii U, the game runs in 720p resolution and without smoothing, and the frame rate fluctuates around 30-60 frames per second (the average value is about 40).

On the Nintendo switch resolution has increased to 1080p in basic mode, and in the portable console gives out 720p. The developers did not add smoothing. There were performance issues.

In stationary mode, the hybrid console works worse than the Wii U version, and The Wonderful 101 can sink in very busy moments up to 22 frames per second. But in portable mode, performance is very similar to what players could watch on Wii U.

In this situation, it is surprising that PlatinumGames decided to increase the resolution so much and at the same time not limit the work to 30 frames per second. Recall that reissue Bayonetta 1-2 works in 720p resolution in all modes, and Astral chain Offered dynamic resolution and a limit of 30 frames per second.

On the PS4 The Wonderful 101 Remaster works in 1080p resolution and with anti-aliasing enabled. The game’s performance is higher than on Switch, but the game still manages to sag to 50 frames per second. On the PS4 Pro the game … did not receive any improvements (compared to the standard console), so the main difference was the very stable 60 frames per second.

The most advanced version was PC, because players can achieve 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, having a suitable computer configuration. At the same time, developers do not indulge in detailed graphics settings, offering three presets (anti-aliasing works in all variants).

But all versions have difficulties with management and a mini-map. In the original, the developers used the second Wii U screen, which is not available on other platforms. Therefore, all movements will have to be performed with the right stick on the gamepad (control on a PC with a keyboard and mouse can be confusing). In portable mode, you can also use the touch screen on the Switch, and on the PS4 – the DualShock 4 touch panel (but the accuracy will be worse).

There were also problems with the minimap. The developers offer to display it in a translucent mode in the corner of the screen or to split the screen into two parts.
