Comparison of console versions of Minecraft Dungeons: When cubes are not equal

Portal Journalists Digital foundry published a video comparing various console versions of the spin-off Minecraftwhich is called Minecraft dungeons. This is a simplified “Diabloid”, which was released on the Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.

Despite the vivid visuals, the game has several disadvantages. The main one is to use a rather demanding graphics engine Unreal engine 4. At the same time, developers from Mojang studios and Double eleven emphasized resolution.

So on Nintendo switch The maximum resolution in stationary mode is 1080p, and in portable – 720p. But with a large concentration of enemies, dynamic resolution comes into play. So, in stationary mode, the parameters can drop to 900p.

On the Xbox one and PS4 the game also works in 1080p resolution. Dynamic resolution is also present, but most of the time the settings do not change on both consoles.

The problem is that all of the above systems produce no more than 30 frames per second, which negatively affects the smoothness of the gameplay. But on Switch there are additional difficulties: performance drawdowns, friezes and incorrect frame-mapping.

The Xbox One also has small friezes, scanty drawdowns and improper frameasing at some levels. The most stable version is for the PS4.

As for the advanced versions of the consoles, they can boast of improved performance, giving out 60fps (with small drawdowns). On the Xbox one x the maximum resolution is 4K, although it can go down to 1620p. On the PS4 Pro the maximum value is about 1350p, with a load it can drop to 1296p.

If we compare the different versions according to the visual settings, then the versions for consoles from the PS4 and Xbox One families are no different. But the version for Nintendo Switch has been simplified: low shadow resolution, simplified water shaders, lower-quality smoothing, there is no shading effect, and torches and lanterns have lost a beautiful bloom effect.
