Clouds help PlayStation 5 backward compatible with PS1, PS2, and PS3 games? A new patent has appeared on the network

The network has mentioned the new Sony patent, according to which games for the PS1, PS2 and PS3 consoles can be emulated using cloud computing. About this for the first time reported Twitter user with nickname Renka_schedule.

After translating the Japanese text into English, an extract with the following contents was obtained: “A large number of projects for PS1 / PS2 / PS3 and game consoles of various generations can be stored and run from the cloud library. These games can be run on a virtual machine that can simulate the operating system of each of the designated consoles.”

On the images attached to the message, you can see the drawings of the PlayStation 1, 2 and 3 models, which are emulated on separate screens. It is not yet clear how this will be achieved and whether it is related to the existing PlayStation Now cloud service. It is possible that the solution using virtual operating systems is a tool thanks to which it is not necessary to integrate backward compatibility technology into the new console. One way or another, the patent document does not say anything about this.

Further in the discussion of Renka_schedule published information from another patent, from which it follows that users can create “mini-games” during the passage of games and share them with friends through the cloud. It sounds as if it could be somehow related to the “Create” button from the new DualSense controller. As we recall, in one of the previous patents already was mentioned system called Scene tagging (marking the scene), which will allow players to record gameplay sections and share them with other gamers.

Despite this, all the patents described above should be taken with a certain degree of skepticism, since they can only mean that Sony is researching and studying the use of technology – none of this has been confirmed.

At the moment we are already knowPS5 will be backward compatible with most PS4 games, but no official information has been provided on how this technology works with devices of other generations.
