Stolen last Tuesday by hackers from the studio’s servers CD Projekt RED files seem to have found their buyers. As the publication reports IGN, several independent sources immediately reported that the criminals managed to sell all the stolen information, including the source codes of games such as The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077…
According to the original plans, the files were to be sold on one closed Internet forum as part of an auction with an initial bid of 1,000,000 dollars… But the attackers, apparently, received a rather lucrative offer – it was announced that the data was sold outside the auction to some unknown party. (The files were allegedly immediately ready to give away without an auction for $ 7 million).
Clarifies that the files were purchased “complete set“. In other words, the interested party immediately acquired all the data stolen by hackers from the servers CD Projekt RED… At the same time, according to current information, the transaction took place on the condition that the group responsible for the theft of the data does not publish it in the public domain.
So far, responsibility for the attack on CD Projekt RED not taken over by any of the known hacker groups, however, some experts suggest that a team is hiding behind the crime HelloKitty, and her motivation was a banal desire to make money. Attackers also threaten to “destroy the studio’s reputation.”
The representatives themselves CD Projekt RED the information has not yet been commented on. The studio is engaged in an internal investigation of the incident and notes that the actions of hackers will slow down production processes in the short term.
