Checking out the classic video game industry: Namco Museum Archives first compilation overview – Volume 1

Xevious Is a vertical scrolling shooter in which the player controls the plane. The main task is to destroy enemies that can be located both on the ground and in the air.

Each type has its own ammunition. Air opponents often look like abstract geometric shapes and attack in groups, which, after the attack, can hide off the screen. Ground targets seem less agile, but in the total mass of opponents can be very dangerous.

Sometimes you can meet reinforced enemies that are notable for being considered one of the first bosses in the history of the gaming industry.

The rest of the game seems rather monotonous and outdated. The green-brown background of forests and fields practically does not change, and the music, consisting of several repeating notes, begins to annoy within a few minutes.

Xevious is one of those games that didn’t survive well. If you do not have feelings of nostalgia for her, then it is unlikely that now she may like.

Mappy Is a platformer about a mouse of the same name in a police uniform. The player’s task is to move around the level, dodge cats and find stolen things.

Locations are divided into several floors with partitions in the form of doors. If the cat catches up with Mappy, then you will lose and the level will start over.

To make life easier for himself, the player can wait for opponents near a flickering closed door, which temporarily knocks out a nearby cat.

Having collected all the stolen things, the policeman proceeds to the next stage, of which there are 256 in the game. They are generally similar to each other, including bonus sections, where there are no opponents and it is necessary to collect all the red balls in a short time.

As with Pac-Man, this project is great for short game sessions during a break, but it gets boring much faster.

Dig dug – logic arcade game about a digger who must defeat all underground monsters on the level. By digging tunnels, the player can bring down stones at the enemies, and when he collides face to face, he can inflate opponents until they burst.

The monster can not be fully inflated and run past. In this case, it will slowly deflate. This feature is useful if the main character is surrounded or if you want to drop a stone on several enemies at once in order to receive an additional bonus on points.

After defeating all the monsters on the screen, the player moves to the next level, where everything is repeated already with an increased number of opponents.

Dig Dug is unlikely to captivate for a long time, but like the other games in the collection, it is well suited for short sessions.

The tower of druaga – A puzzle with role-playing elements about a knight in gold armor. Here the player must take the main character across the floors of the castle (there are 60 of them) and defeat the demon who wants to subjugate humanity.

Each level is designed in the style of a maze, and to go to the next floor, you need to find the key to the door. On the way of the knight, various enemies await, such as slugs, sorcerers, ghosts, other knights, and even fire-breathing dragons. To defeat the villains, the protagonist uses his sword. However, at first, this can be difficult: due to the short radius of the strike and the long rollback animation, opponents have time to successfully counterattack the player immediately after a miss.

Complexity adds a limited number of lives.

Despite the functions of rewinding time a second back presented in the collection and the ability to save progress anywhere, The Tower of Druaga makes even hardcore players sweat.

On the levels you can find secret items that appear after the golden knight destroys a certain number of opponents. Pickaxe destroys some walls and boots increase movement speed.

There are no task lists inside the game, and without some items the game is simply impossible to complete. For example, if you do not get a candle, then the player will not be able to see the ghosts, so at some point the game may turn out to be impassable and you will have to start over.

The Tower of Druaga makes a double impression: on the one hand, it has an interesting concept for a project in 1984, and on the other, it has excessive complexity and an outdated design, because of which you have to start the game from the very beginning.

Sky kid – Another scroll-shooter, only this time horizontal. The player controls a plane in the style of the First World War and must destroy air and ground targets, for which points are awarded.

At the beginning of each level, you must take off without hitting the environment, and at the end – just as carefully land the plane. Unlike Top Gun, the processes here are much simpler.

This game has a local co-op for two.

If you don’t have nostalgia, then the game is unlikely to be able to delay more than ten minutes.
