Captured by Lady Dimitrescu: Our Resident Evil Village Demo Impression – Maiden

As part of an advertising campaign Resident evil village publishing house Capcom released a tech demo of the upcoming horror – Maiden… Now all console owners Playstation 5 can upload it to PlayStation Store

As with the demo Beginning Houraccompanying the release Resident evil 7, “Virgo” does not try to familiarize the players with the new horror movie, but with only small touches demonstrates the tone and mood of the creation of the Japanese developers, allowing you to get an impression of the visual component and sound design of Resident Evil Village.

The most leisurely player will hardly take more than 20 minutes to complete Maiden. The demo tells a short story of a certain girl trapped inside the crushing walls of the Dimitrescu family’s castle. Her misadventures begin in a dungeon shrouded in darkness, and the only goal is to find a way to freedom.

The foundation for Resident Evil Village is a new modification of the RE Engine, which provides a realistic picture thanks to a comprehensive lighting system. However, in the darkness of the cold chamber from the first location, it is problematic to fully lay down the idea of the work of Capcom artists and technical specialists – the absence of light masks numerous details of the environment in order to create the desired atmosphere.

But the sound design in all its splendor is revealed from the very first seconds of the demo version. Capcom engineers have long paid great attention to how the games in the series sound – an impressive library of recorded effects, multiplied by clever audio positioning algorithms, allowed Resident evil 7 and remake Resident evil 2 fill even the most static episodes and scenes with life. And here Maiden confidently demonstrates that Village is being built with an identical philosophy.

In Maiden, the player is virtually harmless, but the sound design confidently instills the opposite illusion. The barely audible inclinations of a draft, the clang of metal chains, falling water droplets exploding with echoes, a heavy rumble that bends around walls, and moans of unknown origin make you believe in what is happening on the screen and hold the gamepad more tightly.

After performing a fairly simple sequence of actions, the darkness of the game locations dissipates, and the nameless Virgo enters the main interior of the Dimitrescu castle. It is here that artists who work with RE Engine… The decoration of the Gothic dwelling is immersed in complex geometry, elaborate decorative elements and a huge number of different materials that react to manually placed light sources.

In this segment, it is impossible not to recall the grandiose central hall of Ozwell Spencer’s mansion from the remake of the original Resident evil – even the color scale prompts such parallels, as if specially selected so that the correct associative array is built in the head.

Unfortunately, you cannot spend a lot of time surrounded by architectural splendor. Without risking spoiling all the surprises (after all, it is these locations that you later have to travel as Ethan Winters in the full-fledged Resident Evil Village), the Maiden demo quickly reaches the home stretch. Having solved a conditional puzzle, Virgo receives the key to her salvation, however, the joy of a fleeting victory is quickly trampled into the mud by a fateful meeting with the mistresses of this house – Lady Dimitrescu herself appears on the stage, along with one of her daughters, after which the screen darkens ominously, leaving the player’s fantasies necessary plenty of room to come up with the ending for Capcom’s dark essay.

Directly about Resident Evil Village, the Maiden demo tells the very minimum. Instead of introducing players to the mechanics of gameplay or navigating the virtual world (all this is extremely similar to Resident Evil 7), “Virgo” is intended to convey the general mood of the project, indicating the approximate guidelines that developers follow. The vintage staircases and carved candelabra are as far removed from the damp floors of Jack Baker’s Louisiana estate as possible, but crafted with even greater awe and attention to detail.

Now that the scenery is arranged and anyone can touch them, there is no doubt about the chosen setting for the Resident Evil Village by Capcom. In the meantime, we reserve our patience in anticipation of the coming spring. We hope that the developers will be able to build an equally memorable game on the foundation of an expressive entourage.
