Bungie’s Destiny could be a Sony or Microsoft exclusive

At the dawn of its independence in 2007, the studio Bungieknown for creating a franchise Halo, was extremely close to signing an exclusive partnership agreement with Microsoft or SonyIf then the negotiations were crowned with success, then the game series, today known as Destiny, would be a full-fledged console exclusive Xbox or Playstation… Such an entertaining fact was recently shared by the composer Martin O’Donnellwho took part in the event GamesBeat Summit 2023

As noted by O’Donnell, known for soundtracks to Halo and Destiny, in 2007, Bungie’s fate could have gone quite differently. However, the stumbling block in negotiations with platform-holders was Bungie’s unwillingness to give absolute rights to its next intellectual property to partners, and this is exactly what the Sony and Microsoft contracts demanded.

Because of this, Bungie ultimately opted for publishing. Activision, which not only contributed to the creation of the original Destiny, but also allowed the studio to retain the rights to the new intellectual property.

In January 2019, Bungie announced that it was ending its publishing relationship with Activision. Today it exists as an independent company, engaged in further development Destiny 2 on their own without outside help.
