Bloomberg: Sony has cut production of PlayStation 5 due to problems with the production of chips

Sony Interactive Entertainment has cut production forecasts Playstation 5 from 15 before 11 million units for the current fiscal year due to SoC production issues. Information about this was published by Bloomberg with reference to its sources within the company.

Back in July, Bloomberg and Nikkei reported that Sony had increased its original PlayStation 5 production plan in response to surging consumer demand caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. By the end of 2023, the company expected to have produced up to 10 million units of the new console.

However, the new report mentions that Sony faces a 50% drop in production efficiency for dedicated PlayStation 5 SoCs, limiting its ability to produce the required number of consoles… And although it is said that chip production is gradually increasing, it has not yet reached a stable level.

PlayStation 5 launches on Christmas 2023. Sony will hold a new presentation tomorrow, where the exact release dates and price of the console are expected to be announced. According to Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Masahiro Wakasugi, the disc version of the PlayStation 5 may cost 449 dollars, and digital – 399 dollars
