Better Than Real Competition: Eurovision: The Story of a Saga of Fire Review from Netflix

Streaming platform Netflix continues to master the comedy genre, releasing though not kindly criticized, but quite successful projects, like “Wrong Girl” or “Mysterious murder”.

New film Will Ferrell and director David DobkinEurovision: The Story of a Fire Saga”/ Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga sends the viewer into the world of a popular music competition.

According to the plot, back in 1974, a little Icelandic boy Lars saw the band perform ABBA on the “Eurovision“and the assault on the musical Olympus became his main goal in life. But rehearsals in his father’s garage in the company of Sigrit’s best friend over the years made their mature duet“ The Fire Saga ”known only in a small fishing town where they perform in the evenings with the drunk hit“ Jaja Ding Dong ”.

Once everything changes: thanks to the intervention of the elves, they get a chance to get to the finals of the famous song contest.

Following predictable plot twists, the heroes go through a series of silly incidents and conflicts, standard for the genre, to the realization of true love. Wherein Will Ferrell plays an over-the-top loser, quite usual for himself, who is not much different from the image that we saw in “Blades of glory“And completely failed”Holmes & Watson

Therefore, almost the entire musical project pulls on its fragile shoulders Rachel McAdams… And this is perhaps her best role since “Sherlock Holmes”. The heroine is charming, naive and in some ways even touching.

The second star of the film is Dan stevensplaying performer from Russia – Alexandra Lemtov. This homoerotic character with a song stuck in the audience’s head not only demonstrates a positive image of the Russian, rare for American films, but makes some of the best jokes in the picture.

Pierce Brosnan in the role of Lars’s father is somewhere on the dance floor. Otherwise, you will find several very funny and at the same time shameful moments, as well as a slightly unexpected ending.

In addition, Ferrell perfectly and makes fun of stereotypical Americans, which in the eyes of our editorial staff adds extra points to the project.

In this case, the main villain of the picture is not a clerk from the Government of Iceland or similar to the young George Michael the performer is from Russia, and Lars himself, who behaves most of the screen time, is selfish and simply monstrous.

Besides gags and light drama, “Eurovision: The Story of a Fire Saga”Offers a kaleidoscope of chic musical numbers. Starting from a medley, where, in addition to fictional participants, the winners of a real competition appear, including Conchitu Wurst and Alexandra Rybak, and ending with personal numbers, where the horned metalworkers from Belarus and Demi lovato as a participant from Greece.

Eurovision: The Story of a Fire Saga”Is a very light, sometimes silly and even fantastic comedy, which in two hours of screen time will give you bright musical numbers, ridiculous gags and a great mood.
